Due to Vivienne Westwood's constant battle against world issues, we were asked to design a tailored look based around a sustainability angle of our choice. I started by looking at how we, as consumers discard so many items of unwanted clothing. '235m items of Britons' unwanted clothing are expected to end up in landfill' this spring. I took this fact literally by throwing thrifted suits on the floor and designing around the silhouettes made by this process of dropping.

I screen printed my own window pane check fabric to which in comprised of the words 'worn less than 5 times, trash in 35 days' to bring light to he statistic that 'Fast fashion garments, which we wear less than 5 times and keep for 35 days, produce over 400% more carbon emissions per item per year than garments worn 50 times and kept for a full year.'

I also explored the idea of quality v quantity, represented by a second, ill-fitting trouser leg. The main objective of my suit was to make people aware of the effects fast fashion is having on the planet as it cannot sustain this system. My hope is that look forces people to look inwards and question if they are part of the problem.
